President’s Message
Robert M. DeNichilo, Esq., CCAL Richardson | Ober | DeNichilo Chapter President
I can’t express how excited I am to start the new year as your Chapter President. We are moving forward into what can only be described as the new normal in an industry that, over the last several years, has experienced unprecedented times. We have “pivoted,” learned new skills (how to adjust lighting for a Zoom meeting), and shared in the difficulties that COVID brought into our lives. I am proud of how our industry came together to help each other, learn together, and address the challenges the last few years have brought.
Just as our community associations and managers had to adapt to the challenges of COVID, so did our Chapter. As is often the case in our community associations, much of what the Chapter Board of Directors does is out of view. Over the last year, the Board has worked diligently and cohesively to prepare our Chapter to move forward into the future. We hired a new executive director, and we are all excited to see the energy and knowledge that Denise Kennedy brings to the Chapter. We have also adapted what we as an industry learned over the last couple of years to ongoing Chapter activities. Many committees continue with teleconference or hybrid meetings, making it easier than ever to participate in the Chapter at the committee level. In addition, we are looking at continuing to provide online webinars to make education more accessible and more convenient for Chapter members. While we embrace new technology and new ways of doing things in the Chapter, the Board is also careful to preserve what we loved and miss from pre-COVID days. Our Chapter has always provided quality education, solid networking opportunities, connecting with old friends, and making new ones.
One of the most exciting changes we are looking to bring forward in the Chapter over the next year is new mentoring opportunities for Chapter members. We must recognize that we are in the midst of a generational shift as an industry. At the same time,
we are dealing with complex emotional issues in society that often present themselves in our community associations and fall on managers and business partners to address. The result is stress, burnout, and the need for support. We must recognize these issues and find ways to attract new talented managers to the industry and keep existing ones from leaving. That may include examining what, as an industry, we offer managers. What changes do we need to make as an industry to attract talent? Can we continue to grow, or do we need to evaluate issues such as night meetings and workloads? Do those factors impact our ability to attract new talent?
In recognition of that fact, the Board is focusing on building engagement by creating mentoring and mentorship opportunities for members. The Board will also focus on identifying and developing future Chapter leaders as a goal for the year. If you are interested and have a desire to serve the Chapter, reach out and let the Board know of your interest. We will find a place to share your spirit, knowledge, experience, and interests with other members to benefit you and the Chapter.
I am truly humbled for the opportunity to lead the Chapter at such an interesting and exciting time in its history.
