Chapter Executive Director Rising Star Winner 2024: Denise Kennedy, OCRC


Denise Kennedy has undeniably transformed the landscape of the Orange County Chapter of CAI since assuming the role of Executive Director in 2021. Stepping into a challenging situation, including the disruptive impact of COVID-19, Denise’s leadership has been nothing short of exemplary.


In the aftermath of these challenges, membership numbers were dwindling, and both event and member participation experienced a noticeable decline. However, Denise proved to be a breath of fresh air for the chapter, seamlessly aligning with itsethos.Fromthe outset,she broughtawealthof innovative ideas for chapter events while also dedicating time to actively engage with our members, attentively addressing their concerns, and seeking ways to enhance the overall membership experience.


Denise’s impact on the events portfolio has been particularly noteworthy. In response to member feedback for something novel, she swiftly introduced the highly successful Concert for CLAC in 2021, followed by the equally triumphant Comedy Night for CLAC in 2022. These events not only reinvigorated networking opportunities but also became the highest- grossing fundraisers for CLAC in the state. Undeterred by the possibility of occasional setbacks, Denise fearlessly explores new avenues. Over the past three years, the chapter has seen the introduction of a Renaissance Faire, a Scavenger Hunt, and the upcoming Pickleball tournament, all of which have injected newfound vitality and enthusiasm into the chapter.


Recognizing the diverse needs of our membership, Denise initiatedthe establishmentofaHomeowner Leader Committee, aimed at enhancing benefits for our homeowner leaders. Additionally, she spearheaded the creation of an Emerging Leaders and Mentorship program, initially focused on communitymanagersand subsequently expanded to encompass all three-membership categories.

Beyond her dedication to the local chapter, Denise has extended her influence to collaborate with other California chapters. She actively contributes to the development of California-specific content and education through CAI National, highlighting her commitment to fostering a collective and regionally tailored approach to community association management.


Denise Kennedy has truly exemplified the qualities of a rising star in her role as the Executive Director of the Orange County Chapter of CAI. Her innovative thinking, proactive engagement with members, and collaborative efforts with other chapters have set a new standard for excellence and inclusivity within the community.
