WINNING ENTRY { BLACK & WHITE } BACK HOME IN ATCHISON by Dr. Dean Telthorst, St. Louis
THE “BLACK AND WHITE” CATEGORY HAD NINE ENTRIES. This category is for images displaying great texture, tonal contrast, shape, form and lighting … without the distraction of color. Dr. Telthorst (UMKC 83) owns Lake Forest Dental and has been in general practice for 39 years. He said about this picture, “This locomotive is on display at the Atchison Railway Museum in Atchison, Kan. I took some
time after working MOMOM in Kansas City in 2016 to hit the countryside to get some photos. The No. 811 engine was built in 1902 and worked the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway for 50 years. It has been on display in Atchison since 1954.” Dr. Telthorst’s entries this year garnered him two first-place and one second place. His other winning photo, “The Edge” was on the cover of Issue 2. He likes to display his photos in the office and has some TVs that continuously run a slideshow of photos to patients. “It’s been a great conversation starter,” he says.
