St. Louis-based Ellis Dental Earns National “Outstanding New Dentist Practice” Recognition
E
llis Dental, owned by Dr. Holly Ellis (UMKC 2006), recently was selected by a panel of nine dental in- dustry experts as the 2016 Outstanding New Dentist Practice by the Dental Office Design Competition.
Sponsored by Wells Fargo Practice Finance, Dental Econom- ics, the American Dental Association (ADA) and ADA Business Resources, the competition honors dental facilities throughout the U.S. that most effectively express the practice philosophy of its practitioner and demonstrate a thoughtful assembly of design characteristics.
The Outstanding New Dentist Practice award specifically acknowledges the best new, remodeled or expanded facility for the first practice owned by a doctor who has graduated from dental school within the past 10 years in the U.S. Ellis Dental was the only practice in the state of Missouri honored by the entire competition, which also included awards for outstanding design innovation, specialty practice design and dental office of the year. When determining this year’s award recipients, judges considered the design efficiencies of the floor plan, effective application of dental technology, innovative and inspirational design solutions and aesthetics reflective of the practitioner’s practice philosophy. Award winners were announced at the ADA’s 2016 annual meeting.
“We received many exceptional entries this year and were thrilled to see such thoughtful and impressive work,” Gavin Shea, senior director of sales and marketing, Wells Fargo Practice Finance said. “We congratulate Dr. Ellis and the entire team at Ellis Dental on this impressive win.”
Ellis Dental, founded in 2009, is located at 10296 Big Bend Boulevard in Southwest St. Louis County in more than 3,100 square feet of uniquely designed space which was completed in August 2015. When constructing the office, Ellis Dental engaged the renowned Unthank Design Group, whose founder, Dr. Michael Unthank, is both an architect and dentist. This collaboration allowed Ellis Dental to create an optimal atmo- sphere to serve the needs of both its patients and its staff.
In addition, Ellis designed the new forward-thinking space to serve the needs of her practice for years to come. From the flow of the office and up-to-date technology, to the ergonomics and the images on the walls, no detail was overlooked. During the planning phase, Ellis spent nearly 18 months touring dental offices throughout the country to incorporate best-practices and plan for future growth. “Throughout the process I continually consulted with my patients, my colleagues and my team at Ellis Dental to find out their needs and desires. I wanted to incorporate these ideas to make the space both efficient and welcoming,” Ellis said. “Our team took our time and researched everything. Winning this prestigious award from the Dental Office Design Competition is a wonderful recognition of our team’s unwavering dedication and hard work.” f
