Showing Community Dental Health Coordinators in Action I
n February, the ADA announced the availability of a new video providing a comprehensive view of the community dental health coordinator (CHDC) project. The video is available on
ADA.org (
www.ada.org/4925.aspx) and at YouTube. The production gives an overview of this ADA ini- tiative, showing how the CDHC provides better oral health to those at-risk individuals who need it most. It features interviews with educators, CDHCs and clinic personnel, and shows the CDHCs working in a variety of underserved urban, rural and Native Ameri- can communities. The CDHC is a dental team member whose primary functions are oral health education, disease prevention, and helping patients in need of care to navigate the system to secure and keep appointments with dentists. The ADA's CDHC pilot project began in 2006, with the final group of students completing their training last year. Today 34 CDHCs are working in 26 communities in seven states.
DDS program announces yearly goal, thanks its supporters
Last issue, we included an update on the Donated Dental Services (DDS) program that we hope you were able to review and especially consider if you are not currently a DDS participating provider (learn more at
www.modental.org/dds).
According to Fred Leviton, who is president of the Dental Lifeline Network (parent organization of DDS), this fiscal year’s program goal is to provide $840,000 worth of donated treatment for 260 people with disabilities or who are elderly or medically frag- ile throughout Missouri. The program has received administrative funding of $40,000 from the State of Missouri and $25,000 form Delta Dental of Missouri, which puts them close to the $75,000 needed.
DDS is grateful to its nearly 400 dentists who each volunteer to donate comprehensive treatment to people with disabilities or who are aged or medically fragile, as well as these program funders just mentioned.

Mercedes-Benz new endorsement with exceptial offer The MDA, through ADA Business Resources, has endorsed Mercedes-Benz. The new program offers ADA members an incentive ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 towards the purchase or lease of a new Mercedes-Benz. Members can begin taking advantage of the new program by visiting
www.ada.org/mercedes to browse the vehicles and associated incentives. Members will need to have their ADA member number in order to log in and request an incentive form, which is presented to the dealer after visiting the Mercedes-Benz dealership and agreeing on a transaction price. The dealer will deduct the incentive from the transaction price on the purchase or lease of a new vehicle. The special member incentive can be combined with most other offers adver- tised in your area. Call 866-628-7232 for details or questions.
On March 5 and 6, an initial accreditation site visit by the Commission on Dental Accredita- tion (CODA) was performed. During the day and a half long site visit, members of the site visit team met with ATSU leadership and faculty, as well as partners from the Grace Hill Health Center and Truman State University.
The site visit team will send their report to ATSU within four to six weeks. That report, along with ATSU’s response, will be utilized by the Commission on Dental Accreditation for a decision regarding the University’s ap- plication for initial accreditation. Pending ap- proval of initial accreditation by CODA, ATSU plans on matriculating the first class during the month of September 2013.
