SPECIAL MDA HOUSE SESSION CALLED >> The MDA Governance Committee continues its work in reviewing the MDA’s governance structure. Throughout the Committee’s process, the rec- ommendations made require approval from the MDA Board and the MDA House of Delegates. In order to allow the Governance Committee to continue its important work, a special session of the MDA House of Delegates has been approved and will be hosted Friday, April 26 at the MDA Execu- tive Office. If you have an interest in attending, please contact Margie Kunze at the MDA.


Critical Summary: Dental Implants and Infected Sites


The Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry (EBD) recently released a critical summary of a Journal of Periodontology article from 2010 titled, “Immedi- ate Placement of Implants Into Infected Sites: A Systematic Review of the Literature.” The critical summary, prepared by John Thurmond DDS, MS, examines: 1) The strengths and weaknesses of the systematic review; 2) The strengths and weaknesses of the evidence; and, 3) The implications for dental practice. ADA to host 27th NEW DENTIST

egistration is open for den- tists and dental students to attend the ADA 27th New Dentist Conference—Climbing to New Heights—at the Four Seasons Hotel in Denver July 18-20. Hotel registration dead- line is June 14 and the pre-con- ference registration deadline is July 8. Register at www.ada.org/ newdentistconf.aspx.


Dentists and dental students are invited to join the ADA New Dentist Committee for a week- end of networking, leadership development and continuing education at a conference that caters to the unique needs of new dentists—those less than 10 years out of dental school.


Attendees will have the op- portunity to earn up to 15 hours of continuing education credits in courses such as implant dentistry, financial manage- ment, treatment planning and case presentation, social media and implications of prescribed medications. The New Dentist Committee also offers a full day of leadership programming on leadership effectiveness, engag- ing students and new dentists in organized dentistry and how to amplify leadership skills us- ing social media.
