Innovator in Association Chris Nyborg CPA, Nyborg & Company, Ltd.
I have known Chris Nyborg since I was a child – roughly 11 or 12 years old, I think. She was working part time for my mother (Lillian Blankenburg) and her father’s office was located in the same building, in Roselle. Chris and I both ended up following in their footsteps (for better or for worse) and thus, we began to make names for ourselves. Birger Nyborg passed away this last year, and I’d like to acknowledge what a pioneer he was for our industry, as well.
Chris is the reason that I became involved in CAI. Chris asked me if I’d like to help her on the magazine committee because she thought I’d be an asset. At the time, I thought – ME? REALLY? But you know, Chris was a pioneer, too. She is the reason I tell people that a personal request for them to volunteer means more to people than you might think. When YOU believe in someone, they begin to believe in themselves.
Pretty soon, we were on the Board together. What’s so
unique about Chris is that she will tell you her opinion NO MATTER WHAT. So, arguing is not out of the question, as those of you that know her, are already aware.

Accounting
What has Chris accomplished? She has become one of the most trusted auditors in our industry. She brings a personal touch to those audits that is hard to match. She investigates data and trends, and she tells each of her communities what they’re doing right and what they need to consider. What’s really exciting about that information? (I mean, after all, it’s an audit….) What’s exciting about the information is that she delivers it in a way that EVERYONE in the room can understand, AND she makes her presentations light, and funny.
Chris has been involved in CAI National, CAI Illinois, she’s one of the pioneering members of the magazine committee for CAI Illinois (along with Barbara Wick – someone we both consider a mentor), we golf together each year at the CAI Golf Outing (and do a lot of giggling), we dance at the CAI Holiday Party, and she taught me the value of giving back to the community, even outside of our industry. She loves her pets and her family, and she’s one of the most amazing people that I’ve ever met. I really just can’t say enough about how lucky we all are to have her in our industry. And this is for you, Chris – shout out to the Bing.
