District & Association Updates

ISI District 6 (Michigan) by Julie Goddard, District Director

Happy fall from Michigan! We are in full swing of a new skating season. We have our competition schedule set for the season, and we are excited to travel to Winter Classic in Oxford, Ohio, this year. We love the facility and we are looking forward to all of our teams and skaters heading there

to make memories together. We are also looking forward to spending time with our ISI family, especially Flip! We are in full planning mode for the 2017 State Games of America in Grand Rapids! We hope to see many coaches and their skaters from across the United States at this awesome event. Everyone in the district is aware of the Rule Revisions and

they have been doing a great job of implementing them into their skaters’ programs and learning. Special thanks to the ISI staff for keeping us well informed on all the great things coming from the ISI office!

ISI District 8 (Chicago/Milwaukee Metropolitan Area) by Vicky Klinko-Osseland, District Director

Te ISI District 8 Fall Seminar was held Oct. 9 at Niles Iceland. We had many coaches in attendance, and we were happy to welcome Gerry Lane and Toni Cooper, who presented on “High Level Spins and Spin Combinations,” a “Review of ISI Dance Steps,” “High Level Jumps and Jump Combinations,” and

“Communication Styles.” We also had a moderated panel discussion on the benefits of using ISI and U.S. Figure Skating programs. Te discussion was well received. Tanks to Gerry, Toni, Mary Gullen, Amy Forbes, Jennifer Ward and Josh Fischel for participating in the conversation. We are gearing up for a full season of competitions, which

started with Harvest Gold, Nov. 11-13 in Joliet, Ill., and continues with Winter Welcome, Dec. 9-11 in Northbrook, Ill.; and Frost Fest on Dec. 28 in Rolling Meadows, Ill. Tere will also be Freestyle 7-9 test sessions held in conjunction with at least the first two competitions of the season. Good luck to all skaters and coaches! Please keep an eye on the District 8 website (learntoskate.org)

and Facebook page for current information on everything we have coming up in our district!

ISI District 10 (Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin) by Jane Schaber, CSD, District Director

District 10 is off to a great season! We recently held our District seminar on Sept. 25, with 75 coaches in attendance. It was a great day of learning for all, with sessions on judging, the new ISI updates, on-ice review of all dance steps and introducing our District 10 Conference Champs Challenge!

We will be awarding prizes to the three District 10 teams

with the largest number of individual participants in the 2017 Conference Champs — a great way to give back to our District 10 teams. Guest presenter Jimmie Santee gave both on- and off-ice presentations that demonstrated the importance of good quality basics and how those build to great high level elements, showing it all starts with a good one-foot glide or swizzle. Tese early skills are the central building blocks to even the highest level element.
