FROM THE PRESIDENT
David Dahan ESQ. Hyland Levin Shapiro, LLP
A strategic initiative the chapter is proud of is having 10% of committee volunteers be first- timers each year. We have exceeded this goal for 2021, 2022, and 2023. This is, in part, the result of individual outreach. We believe this facilitates the infusion of new ideas to keep programs fresh and exciting.
Dear Fellow Members & Friends,
Wow – I cannot believe the end of 2023 is near and my term as President is almost over!
“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.”-Michael Jordan.
I refer to this quote because my experience as president reinforces what I have always believed (okay – I admit, it is also because I am a huge basketball fan!). All joking aside, what makes this chapter so extraordinary is not who fills the role as president and does not come down to one individual; it takes a team who wants to “make things happen” and that team includes you. Your valuable time, creativity, vision, and dedication all contribute to the continued growth and success of this chapter. The year 2023 is another example of that. Let’s review some highlights of the year together.
A goal of mine was to continue to improve each member’s overall experience. As part of that, I encouraged all of you to try to meet one new person at each event you attended. You rose to the occasion! I was extremely pleased to talk with members about all the new people they met throughout the year.

The chapter has also engaged in significant efforts to improve proactive communications with management companies. This includes having management company ambassadors to promote interaction and dialogue on how to improve associations such as attracting talented individuals as managers.
The Keystone Executive Leadership Retreat continues to be a tremendous success. Attendance was terrific and feedback has been great. We look forward to continuing this event in the future. Next year we take the event to the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, PA from September 11-13.
Part of the chapter’s strategic plan is to develop a presence in Western Pennsylvania — specifically the Pittsburgh area. For this year’s inaugural Western PA Education Conference, we have nearly 50 people registered as of the writing of this article. We are thrilled to have such a great response to our inaugural effort. In addition, many of those who registered are not (yet!) members of the chapter which provides an excellent opportunity to have them join and improve growth. This allows continued enthusiasm, adds unique perspectives, and drives more interaction to further fuel your chapter moving forward.
I also want to recognize the outstanding work by Tony, Michael, Amanda, and Jenn. Initially, let me state that Tony has
been Executive Director for 20 years. As I understand it, he is one of the longest tenured Executive Directors in the country. All of them are consummate professionals, always have the best interests of the chapter in mind, smiles on their faces, and are an absolute pleasure to work with.
In addition, I want to thank all members of the board of directors, past and present, who I have worked with. My interaction with them over the past several years has always been something I looked forward to. I am grateful for their insight, devotion to this chapter and the profession as a whole, and their friendship.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to allow me to serve as your president. It has been an honor to do so and one of the greatest experiences of my career. Since joining the chapter long ago, I have been thankful for the people I have met and the relationships that have developed. Having the pleasure to serve on the board and as president has only heightened my experience and made be a better individual and professional.
The future of the chapter is no doubt very bright. I turn over the gavel to Lynne Hartmann, who I have known for many years. Lynne has devoted her career to this industry. She brightens up any room with her presence and is fun to be around. She is a poised, fair, and a respected leader.
I look forward to seeing those who are going to attend our wonderful Excellence Awards Gala at the beautiful Talamore Country Club in Ambler, PA on November 30!
Sincerely, David
