TECHNOLOGY TRENDS IN CONSTRUCTION

Te industry is accustomed to

subcontractors who fail to recover costs for their work, and the manual nature of the current T&M process only exacerbates this trend. While a digital T&M tool is unlikely to change many of the underlying economic

factors that define the industry, better use of automation and data will have a positive impact to protect its stake- holders and represents an important step to improving the financial perfor- mance of the industry. 

accurate and timely data to project stakeholders in real-time. Andrew Cameron describes how

this is being implemented at SFO: “We knew there had to be a better

way to manage the traditional T&M workflow. We’ve partnered with a local Bay Area start up to develop a digital solution that is being rolled out with our trade partners so that all parties can benefit from a streamlined digital experience. We are of the view that a digital workflow can provide numerous

benefits including:  Automating T&M tickets in the field immediately digitizes the data, and makes it accessible to all project stakeholders, including owners, architects and construction managers. Tis visibility assures that T&M work is identified, understood, and well managed.

 Te chances of the data being lost or delayed is reduced, improving the opportunity and likelihood for timely processing and payment to trade partners.

 Data that is digitized at source drives transparency in the change order and payment processes.

 Better use of the data for metrics, insights, trending and forecasting drives awareness of project cost and contingency impacts, which in turns creates optimal conditions for subcontractor compensation.”
