TECHNOLOGY TRENDS IN CONSTRUCTION
Te industry is accustomed to
subcontractors who fail to recover costs for their work, and the manual nature of the current T&M process only exacerbates this trend. While a digital T&M tool is unlikely to change many of the underlying economic
factors that define the industry, better use of automation and data will have a positive impact to protect its stake- holders and represents an important step to improving the financial perfor- mance of the industry.

accurate and timely data to project stakeholders in real-time. Andrew Cameron describes how
this is being implemented at SFO: “We knew there had to be a better
way to manage the traditional T&M workflow. We’ve partnered with a local Bay Area start up to develop a digital solution that is being rolled out with our trade partners so that all parties can benefit from a streamlined digital experience. We are of the view that a digital workflow can provide numerous
benefits including: Automating T&M tickets in the field immediately digitizes the data, and makes it accessible to all project stakeholders, including owners, architects and construction managers. Tis visibility assures that T&M work is identified, understood, and well managed.
Te chances of the data being lost or delayed is reduced, improving the opportunity and likelihood for timely processing and payment to trade partners.
Data that is digitized at source drives transparency in the change order and payment processes.
Better use of the data for metrics, insights, trending and forecasting drives awareness of project cost and contingency impacts, which in turns creates optimal conditions for subcontractor compensation.”
