PROJECT SPOTLIGHT
buildings housing 16 classrooms, an administration building and multi- purpose room twice the size of the original one. Two existing buildings containing
12 classrooms were heavily modernized to complement the new construction. Te end result: an upgraded school that provides 21st century collaborative learning environments for its K-5 students. Otto adhered to a strict schedule,
pursuing seven different construction phases that allowed new facilities to be built while others remained occupied.
Overcoming Challenges Te project team overcame several
significant schedule-related challenges during construction. In 2018, the Camp Fire caused a weeklong delay due to poor air quality. Ten- unknown asbestos and fire damage was discovered in the buildings to be modernized, requiring additional work and an accelerated schedule to catch up. Finally, a summer school session was scheduled when the campus was slated to be vacant, requiring additional flexibility and work-arounds. Despite these hurdles, the team stayed on schedule with no added costs. Safety was a top priority from
the start. Otto worked to be an active partner with the school during construction, engaging students through multiple open houses, tours, lip sync videos and other school events. Tese served to integrate students into construction activities while minimizing undue curiosity and deterring students from jumping the fences into the project zone. “Otto Construction was a great
partner on our project,” commented Amy Rovai Gregory, Principal, Greer Elementary. “Tey provided constant communication to us and the community about construction activ- ities and did their best to minimize the impact of construction activities.

Tey remained flexible and transparent throughout the project.” Te team’s collaborative approach and strong project management skills
allowed them to overcome every challenge and deliver the project under budget and on schedule in January 2020.
