AGC’s Legal Advisory Committee: Working for You in These Unprecedented Times
By Ryan H. Crosner, Esq. AGC Legal Advisory Committee Vice Chair
T
he word “unprecedented” has been undoubtedly overused in the past year, but even as we are
beginning to see progress and a light at the end of the tunnel of this past year, many questions will still remain. For those who perform work
directly as contractors and for those of us who provide services to those contractors, our work has continued throughout this pandemic and will continue long past when this pandemic is in our rearview mirror. In the year ahead, however, as we continue to live through what we can only hope will be an end to this epoch and the beginning of another, all of us in the construction industry will continue to face an endless barrage of questions. Some will be easily answered, but many more will fall into a gray area. Te gray area is the specialty of
AGC of California’s Legal Advisory Committee (LAC). Te LAC is comprised entirely of
lawyers, many of whom are nationally recognized construction law experts. Made up of an exceptional mix of law firms (from international law firms to solo practitioners) and in-house counsel, the association’s LAC plays a critical role in understanding the impact that new laws, regulations, and

judicial decisions will have on your business.
I have been fortunate enough to
spend a significant portion of my legal career as a member of LAC and can personally attest to the wide expertise that this group brings to the table. Simply put, I walk away from every meeting learning something new that I bring to the rest of my practice.
Being a part of AGC’s LAC gives attorneys of all levels the opportunity to connect with and learn from nationally recognized law experts leading the field on some of the most challenging issues the construction industry faces.
Being a part of AGC’s LAC gives
attorneys of all levels the opportunity to connect with and learn from nationally recognized law experts leading the field on some of the most challenging issues the construction industry faces. Indeed, in recent years, LAC has greatly focused on mentoring young attorneys who join the group. Te LAC serves as an educa-
tional forum on construction law for construction attorneys. We review new cases of interest, proposed new legis- lation, requests for litigation support and amicus support, and regulations and government practices affecting the construction industry. Because the California Bar
recognizes AGC as a Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) provider, MCLE programs are part of regular meetings. In addition, LAC members contribute legal briefs, amicus briefs, and articles for AGC’s magazine, the California Constructor, and the “Construction Law Manual.” Trough the legal hotline, LAC
members provide limited pro bono assistance to contractor members at the outset of legal difficulty. Te LAC continually reviews AGC’s standard form documents for legal and statutory compliance, as well as providing educational forums for AGC members on recent legal developments at district and state meetings. LAC’s monthly meetings serve as
the foundation of the group, but the highlight of the group is certainly our annual retreat where we get together in person for a weekend of learning and plenty of fun. I already count many of its members as not just respected colleagues but also friends. As we all look forward to the
upcoming year, the LAC will continue its goals of staying atop of legal developments and counseling AGC’s members through both the unprec- edented and, one day that will not come soon enough, the normal times. I am honored to be a member of this incredible group.
