Erin Volk Joins WiOPS’ National Board W
omen in Construction Operations (WiOPS), a professional organization
whose mission is aimed at providing a forum to mentor and further the advancement of women in the building industry, recently celebrated its five-year anniversary and named several prominent women in the industry to its National Board of Directors. Erin Volk, AGC of California
Vice President, Workforce & Opera- tions, was among seven industry leaders named to WiOPS National Board. She
will serve a three- year term as board member. Since it was
founded five years ago in Southern California, WiOPS has grown from 150 members to nearly 600 today. Te organi- zation is continuing to expand with 300 prospective members attending its Northern California launch this January.
Te organization has grown from
quarterly to monthly meetings and events and has a full calendar for 2018 and beyond. Te National board was formed to help prepare the organi- zation for future growth. WiOPS also installed separate boards of directors for its separate Southern and Northern California chapters. Holly Cindell, Lendlease Project Executive, currently serves as President of the growing organization. Several AGC members fill the ranks of the three WiOPS boards. For more about WiOPS and its

AGC of California Well-Represented at National Convention

also marked the national association’s centennial celebration. Among the many achievements celebrated, several awards were presented to AGC member companies and their respective chapters throughout the week, including the first-ever Diversity & Inclusion Awards. Here is the list of AGC of California members presented with awards at this year’s Annual Convention.
CONSTRUCTION SAFETY EXCELLENCE AWARDS (CSEA)
Several AGC of California
members who participated in the California Construction Safety Excel- lence Awards were named finalists in the National AGC Construction
Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA). Grand Award: Rosendin Electric – Specialty Division, Over 3 million work hours
First Place: Griffith Company – Highway Division, 800,000 – 2.5 million work hours
Underground Construction Company – Specialty Division, 1 million – 3 million work hours
Second Place: B.T. Mancini Co., Inc. – Specialty Division, 300,000 – 600,000 work hours
Third Place: Granite Construction – Highway Division, Over 2.5 million work hours
Nova Group, Inc. – Heavy Division, Over 375,000 work hours

Kiewit Infrastructure – Federal & Heavy New Award for their Folsom Dam Auxiliary Spillway (Phase IV)
Hensel Phelps – Construction Management New Merit Award for their Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center
Atkinson Contractors, LP – Design-Build Civil Merit Award for their I-15/I-215 Devore Interchange Improvements in San Bernardino
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION AWARDS
San Francisco’s Yerba Buena
Engineering and Construction was named as the first-ever Diverse Business of the Year award winner.
In addition, Bjork Construction in Fremont, CA, won the Diversity & Inclusion Excellence Award for small contractor.
STUDENT CHAPTER AWARDS AGC’s Outstanding Educator
Award for 2018 went to Alan Bond, California State University, Chico. In addition, the Student Chapter at Chico State received Second Place in the Outstanding Student Chapter Contest.
CALIFORNIA TRADITION AGC of America President Eddie
Stewart, representing Alabama, was installed as AGC of America’s 2018 President at the close of Convention. Guests joined AGC of California President and First Lady, Walt and Pegeen Johnson, for a Presi- dent’s Reception that keeps with the longstanding California tradition of presenting the National President and First Lady with the California letterman jacket and First Lady pendant.
