Accessibility training for
recreation hosted by Tennessee The National Center on Accessibility will conduct a
three-day training course on current accessibility standards that affect recreation facilities. The dates are March 3-5, 2015 in Burns, Tennessee. The course will emphasize how design and construction affect people with disabilities and how peo- ple with disabilities function in park facilities. Discussions will cover outdoor developed areas such as trails, camp- grounds, picnic and viewing areas, and beaches. The course is sponsored by
Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. It will include field exercises at Montgomery Bell State Park to demonstrate program and physical assessment practices. Participants will learn to recognize barriers to program access; apply the accessibility guidelines to new construction and altered recre- ation facilities; and direct project super- vision toward compliance with the acces- sibility requirements while benefitting the widest spectrum of park users.
