T e Future of Clinical Trials continued...
community pharmacists also provides an opportunity for follow-up therapy that is instrumental in-patient healthcare. T ese aspects make local community pharmacists the ideal HCPs to improve patient participation in clinical trials. RxE2 believes that independent
community pharmacists are the missing link in promoting clinical trials. Pharmacists understand patient health histories through their dispensing records, and the one-on-one relationships they have with their patients provide the perfect platform for pharmacists to discuss clinical trials. Pharmacists, the medication experts, know their patients and their medical histories in addition to their prescriptions. If the pharmacists are working with RxE2, they also know about ongoing clinical trials. Using the clinical expertise of pharmacists to create awareness of trials for the benefi t of their patients is a natural extension.
T e RxE2 Platform: Cutting-edge technology empowering community pharmacists When it comes to addressing critical
clinical trial issues–patient recruitment, retention, adherence, and compliance– pharmacists are key; they are the most competent healthcare professionals to facilitate these processes. RxE2 provides the industry’s fi rst technology platform to engage pharmacist participation as a means of advancing clinical trials and enhancing patient outcomes. Our technology enables pharmacists to easily address and provide the fundamental services necessary to recruit, train, and engage patients to advance clinical research. And RxE2 pays pharmacists fair- market value for their eff orts. T e RxE2 platform includes a
sophisticated algorithm that can search for any combination of necessary inclusion and exclusion data for any given trial based on prescription data and other datasets. Once a list of potential trial participants is collated, the local pharmacist contacts their patients individually to discuss the trial and the patient’s interest in participating. T is direct approach targets only patients who were identifi ed as possible fi ts for the trial. If the patient is interested and potentially eligible, the pharmacist can then work with them
to set up a screening appointment with the clinic. Once accepted into a trial, the community
pharmacist may continue working with the patient to ensure adherence and compliance. Because the pharmacist is local and available, they can gather real-time data about patient compliance and provide ongoing support to ensure the patient’s questions are answered. Having the trusted support of a pharmacist encourages patients to address concerns and engage in a way they may not with clinical staff . It allows consistent communication and creates the opportunity for feedback that would never be available in a strictly clinical setting. Pharmacists who participated in trials
with RxE2 shared their excitement about the program. T ey found great value in the opportunity to provide more healthcare options to their patients, engage patients using their clinical expertise, and add a new revenue stream for their businesses. As one pharmacist said,
“I just completed my fi rst interview, and the patient qualifi ed as a referable candidate. I can’t describe how awesome it feels to potentially help in this way.”
Another stated,
“As they were talking to me…you could see their hesitancy and anxiety about this opportunity melting away. I was pleasantly surprised to see the impact that I had on these people’s lives and their overall health.”
Looking ahead As community pharmacists become more
involved, other opportunities to support clinical trials will surface, like dispensing investigational drugs and using pharmacies to perform certain study activities that can be done locally and conveniently for patients. Local independent pharmacists have a
unique relationship with their patients. T ey have access to necessary medical data and invaluable insight into patient SDoH. Like all healthcare professionals, their goal

is to do what is best for the patient. Using their knowledge to promote participation and support patients through a clinical trial can only improve the health outcome of the patient. It also solves the many issues that have beleaguered the pharmaceutical industry for decades.
