In my career, I’ve developed essential programs for managing diabetes, hypertension, and chronic pain, providing crucial support for those grappling with these conditions. I’ve also been instrumental in launching a pharmacy focused on addressing the opioid crisis in an underserved area—demonstrating that pharmacists can be both clinically profi cient and skilled in business. We need leaders across all sectors who are deeply committed to the advancement of our profession, keenly aware of the rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, and ready to champion the needs of pharmacists so that we can best serve our patients. By engaging in constructive conversations, listening with genuine curiosity, and asking the right questions,


we embody true leadership and can eff ect meaningful change.


Your Leadership Checklist So, how can you become a community


leader? It requires a mindset shiſt towards being open to opportunities for learning and growth. Start with an affi rmation, “I will be a leader in my community,” then incorporate the following: • Be present: Participate in public health events, volunteer for leadership roles, take part in mentorship and advocate for pharmacists as leaders in healthcare.


• Assess community needs: Talk to your patients. Use surveys and feedback to identify pressing health issues.


• Plan interventions: Develop and implement targeted interventions based on these identifi ed needs.


• Educate continuously: Regularly host educational sessions that are open to the public. Be curious about the latest research and best practices.


• Collaborate and network: Build genuine relationships with other health professionals and community leaders to broaden the reach and impact of your initiatives.


• Communicate eff ectively: Develop strong communication skills and listen actively to patients and colleagues. • Refl ect and adapt: Constantly evaluate the eff ectiveness of your eff orts and be
