Bonclarken Young Lodge Dedication

onclarken’s Honor Roll of Vi- sionaries and Servant Leaders was founded in 2004 to honor those who have given in exceptional ways to make our Conference Center the wonderful place it is today. To date, 98 people have been inducted into our Honor Roll.


B This month, I’d like to share with


     Honor Roll members, Mrs. Gladys Young and Mrs. Joy Young, and the extraor- dinary gift Bonclarken has recently received from the Young Family to honor these two wonderful ladies. Gladys Young was honored in 2004 as a charter member of our Honor Roll. She became the resident Assis- tant Manager of Bonclarken in 1962 and continued to “run” Bonclarken year-around, using her home on Syc- 


her retirement in 1974. She did everything for our guests; from scheduling the reservations to making the beds to preparing the food! Bonclarken will forever be grateful for the wonderful work of Gladys Young. Gladys’ daughter-in-law, Joy Young, was inducted in our Honor Roll in 2010 for her many years of faithful service. Joy volunteered as a member of our Gift Shop staff, pricing, displaying, organizing, and selling items to Bonclarken guests. Her skill, dedication, and friendly service were instrumental in estab- lishing the Gift Shop as an integral part of a visit to Bonclarken for thousands of guests. In 2011, she was a key member of the Committee that planned, raised funds for, and oversaw the construction of Wanda’s Playland. Also, she has  arrangements, often including her home-grown orchids, which have brought a special touch to the buildings and numerous special events at Bonclarken. In October 2023, the Young Family expressed their desire to the Bonclarken


 name of The Lodge permanently changed to The Young Lodge for the purpose of honoring Gladys and Joy Young. The family asked that their gift be used to establish The Young Family Endowment, from which annual interest income would be used for the upkeep of The Young Lodge and for capital improve- ments to other Bonclarken facilities.


At the October 28, 2023 meeting of the Bonclarken Board, an Agreement be- tween the Young Family and Bonclarken was unanimously approved. A dedication of The Young Lodge was held January 27, 2024. We are overjoyed with this transformational gift from the Young Family to establish the Young Endowment which will support the future upkeep of The    these funds will allow us to make annual improvements to The Young Lodge for years to come. What a wonderful blessing!
