A Spanish Ministry at Peachtree Corners Presbyterian Church?
By Rev. Richard Aguilar
our church has a new vision, “Wel- coming all people to become one people in Christ.” The Lord has led our pastor and the church leadership to have a more diverse community... one that worships God and reflects the values of the Kingdom of God. The Lord brought us to PCARP in
Y
October of 2019, and in God’s way of doing things, we were to be part of this more diverse community. We got involved in the church’s ministry, and my wife, Cindy Aguilar, was hired to serve as Director of Children’s Min- istry at the church. After a time of prayer and waiting in the Lord, the church called me to serve as Director of Outreach Ministry. On December 10, 2021, we tested
the waters with an event meant for the Spanish-speaking community. As the Advent and Christmas seasons were at hand, we set up the “Villan- cicos- Dulce de Guayaba” Christmas program. “Villancicos” are Christ- mas Songs and “Dulce de Guayaba” is a popular Latin dessert. This event produced two signifi- cant effects that only the Holy Spirit
es, by the grace of God, we started in December 2021. How you may ask? Well,
could do. First, as a body of believers, the church came together to pray, serve, and support the event. It was beautiful to see how everyone put their gifts at the service of the Kingdom of God. Second, we put together a team of beginner Latin musicians - to play and sing Christmas Carols that they had never sung or played before. We did it all with the help of God. The response we had to this event was not what we had hoped for but was
what the Lord gave us. Fourteen people participated heard the Christmas story and the Gospel. Now I am in contact with seven people who represent the universe of Latinos
in our geographic area. They come from 4 Latin American countries, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Ecuador. All of them are from different backgrounds, cultures, social statuses, education, and needs. This ministry is a great challenge, but it is a good challenge that we can overcome with the power of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We now offer pastoral assessment, a Sunday School class on God’s grace in
Spanish, and very soon a Podcast, Luz para la Vida (Light for Life), to reach Latinos in our community. Within 10 miles of our Church, there are approximately 300,000 Latinos.
We ask for your prayers that God brings those who are to be saved by his preached Word. Also, pray that God may send people to help us, as Lydia was to Paul and Cornelius to Peter.?
Psalm 138:4-5
“All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord, for they have heard the words of your mouth, and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord."
