REACHING OUT By Vicki Marsh H
ave you ever tried to reach out in the darkness? Several years ago, I was staying in Founders Hall at Bonclarken. It was around 10:00 pm, and I had just stepped out of the shower and was reaching for my towel. Suddenly, the lights went out everywhere! I continued to extend my hand forward until I
where I could lie down and go to sleep until morning when the sun (and perhaps the electricity?) would provide some light for me.
Reaching out in the darkness is not easy. And yet, isn’t that what our missionaries do? They go to foreign lands to spread the light of Jesus to people who have lived in darkness all of their lives. I’m sure that it can be spread the gospel” should bring a sense of joy and contentment as well. Mary Galloway Giffen was our pioneer At last, the ARP Board decided to send her to Egypt, where she helped to start schools, evangelize and bring light to the darkness of the Egyptians. She was willing to reach out to them. While most of us are not prepared or circles send cards regularly to the missionaries whom their church supports, and missionaries on furlough in the States are often asked to speak about their work. ARP Women’s Ministries provides partial support to our two Birthday Ladies: Rebekah Carson and Shelia Osborne. Don’t forget to reach out to our missionaries! How can we reach out at home? We can spread God’s love to those in need in our communities by helping them with food, clothing, and our time. Fill bags for a backpack ministry at a local school with enough food for the weekend for students who might not be able to eat without that help. Collect food for local food banks. Clean out your closet and donate shoes and clothing to a homeless shelter. Start a food locker or a box library at your church and stock it for those in need nearby. Help to build a habitat house. Keep gift cards to local fast-food restaurants and give them to people you see on street corners or in parking lots who are holding signs for work or neighbor who has been ill by taking them a meal or offering to run errands while they recuperate.
you reach out?
