Framing the Future of Your Church and Ministry Rev. Wayne Frazier

ONA Church Vitality Coach Outreach North America hosted the annual “Framing the Future of Your Church and Ministry” (FFCM) retreat at Hold- en Beach, NC, in September. Each year, we recruit a cohort of pastors who have the support of their sessions to follow Christ, the King, and Head of our Church, by prayer, Scripture, and faith to have a clearer focus on our God-given mission. These are uncertain times for the Church in the USA! It is more important than ever to know from Scripture our mis-

sion, core values, strategy, and measures (biblical marks of a mature Jesus follower). Such a process usually takes a year  to presbyteries was limited. However, God provided a good cohort of pastors and wives. ONA believes that ministers in existing churches, just like church planters, need biblical teaching about our identity in Christ (I Corinthians 4:1-7). This retreat also includes praying for one another and facilitating a process for sessions to lead local churches to faithfully do God’s mission in our communities for His glory. Pastors and wives considered such topics as: The Gospel and the Pastor, The Life Cycle of the Church, Ministry Stresses, Bar- riers to Personal Strategic Planning, and Courage to Lead. We were led skillfully in worship by David Huffman. We prayed for each other. Flourish Coaching (which is used in the PCA) provided each pastor with an evaluation of their ministry strengths and weaknesses. This feedback was given by the pastor, his wife, and several people who have known him throughout his ministry.

Here is what some of the attendees are saying:

David Huffman, Oak Ridge ARPC, SC This is my third time, and I’m still taking notes. The things I’m learning are gell- ing this time.

Rev. Mark Forbes, Church Planter, First ARP Gastonia The FFCM Retreat was a wonderful time of fellowship and encourage- ment. It was also great to set aside time for instruction, planning, prayer, and worship. I hope to apply much of what I learned about church revi- talization and other’s ministry experi- ences to the work set ahead of me as a church planter. Many thanks to those at Flourish and Outreach North America for making it available to us.

Rev. Anthony Pizzuti

Susan and I are grateful for the FFCM Retreat that was provided by ONA. It was beyond our expectations. The worship and fellowship lifted our spir- its. The gospel-centered messages proclaimed throughout the week brought much encouragement and challenges in the area of church vi- tality along with the need to reach the lost and provide a pathway of discipleship for all of God’s people. These experiences of encourage- ment have refreshed and strength- ened us to press on with full depen- dence on our great God to refresh and strengthen the bride of Christ.

Rev. Tom Cox, Holly Springs, NC This is my second time participating in this retreat. It’s worthwhile to in- vest time in getting away with other church leaders to be refreshed in the gospel and to discuss best practices for church health. It was very encour- aging, and I highly recommend it!

Rev. Bill Cain, Louisville ARPC, GA This is a great training week. FFCM provides a process for our church to seek to answer the important ques- tions for a vitalized church through God’s Word and grace. The teach- ing is so very helpful.
