your dog’s digestive tract (stomach and/or intestines). At the very least, eating something like the fake spider web will leave your fur baby feeling lousy. Carved pumpkins usually have a candle in them, which your pet could easily knock over and start a fire or at the least, cause a mess.

Make sure your pet is properly identifiable! Microchipping is so important and having the information up to date is even more important. Have a collar and ID tag just in case Fido decides to bolt when you open the door to those trick or treaters. If your pet is wary of strangers or has a tendency to bite, put them in another room during trick or treating hours to provide them with a safe space. We look at some of those costumes and they are scary to us, imagine what your pet may thinking!!

Beware of glow sticks, most contain a nontoxic liquid that tastes awful and could cause your pets to throw up and feel agitated. And lastly, if you are going to put your pet in a costume, make sure it fits properly and does not have any pieces that can easily be chewed off. Make sure it does not interfere with your pet’s ability to open its mouth, sight, hearing, breathing, or movement. Let your pet get accus- tomed to the costume before Halloween and never leave your pet unsupervised while they are in costume.

Everyone at Yavapai Humane Society wishes you and your furry friends a Happy Halloween!
