IRRIGATION ON DISPLAY in Las Vegas
The 2019 Irrigation Show and Education Week convened in Las Vegas Dec. 2-6. This annual event is the only trade show dedicated to irrigation, and it draws industry professionals from all over the world.
T
his year’s show co-located with the National Ground Water Association and the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association, resulting in over
9,000 attendees and an expanded exhibit hall of over 600 total exhibitors.
The trade show, education program and numerous entertaining and connecting events combined for an exciting week focused on irrigation.
New event for ag dealers
This year, the Irrigation Association hosted a new special event with ag dealers in mind. Ag Dealer Day was held on Dec. 5 with a half day of educational sessions for dealers to learn about running a successful ag dealership through different business strategies. The event featured the following sessions:
• Sales Strategies & Customer Engagement
• Financial Management Best Practices
• Irrigation Technologies as Solutions to California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act Requirements
• Growing Industrial Hemp – Where Irrigation Management & Profits Meet

The new event was a success, with those participating requesting additional similar offerings in the future.
Keynote speaker takes the mound
The keynote address is always a highlight of show week, offering inspiration and motivation from a unique and interesting speaker. This year’s speaker was Jim Abbott, a Major League Baseball pitcher who achieved success despite being born with only one hand. Abbott shared a powerful message of how he was able to overcome perceived limitations and reach his dreams.
Industry Insights covers latest trends & hot topics
Today’s irrigation industry is continually being transformed through new product and technology innovations, research and improved practices. The IA introduced new Industry Insights sessions at the 2019 show, offering presentations and panel discussions about the latest trends, best practices and research updates on various irrigation and business topics.
Many irrigation professionals also partici- pated in IA University courses that teach core irrigation curriculum, and numerous individuals took an exam and became certified as a certified agricultural irrigation specialist or a certified irrigation designer.
