« This is a season-long chart of nine sensors in a soil moisture
probe from 2- to 34-inch depths in 4-inch increments. Notice the difference in both root activity and infiltration after moisture events at different levels. In late August, you can see water use from the 34-inch level. Also note how few moisture events infiltrate past where there is root activity; this is intentional, as we do not want to add water to a depth the plant cannot use it.

image above, but it provides a sum of all of them together to show overall soil water activity. The top line is field capacity and the lower line is the refill point. It is best to manage between these two lines, not spending too much time on either end to encourage root activity. Active roots equal higher yields.
