IR and DR: Better together?
On Dec. 6, SIR and ACR co-hosted a town hall to discuss the benefi ts and drawbacks of separating IR and DR service lines. Moderated by Michael D. Dake, MD, FSIR, and Brent J. Wagner MD, MBA, the town hall focused on topics such as:
• Challenges around practice models for IRs as they transition into a primary specialty;
• Whether IR should separate from DR;
• Practice models that work through the barriers/challenges IRs encounter when they try to establish a clinical practice, whether independent or part of a larger practice or hospital;
• Collaborative work options for IRs and DRs to ensure that a radiologist is optimizing the provision of diagnostic imaging and imageguided procedural care; and
• Ways ACR and SIR can best support IRs and DRs in having a successful and sustainable practice.
Panelists included Bulent Arslan, MD, FSIR, James Brink, MD, FACR, Mary Costantino, MD, FSIR, Scott Bundy, MD, FACR, DABR, and David J. Spinosa, MD.
