IRS-IN-TRAINING COLUMN

The first portion of the program provided an overview of the medical device development process through a series of online webinars that were very well received by RFS members. Industry partners and physician-inventors spoke on topics ranging from concept creation, prototyping and invention disclosure, to market research, regulatory assessment and commercialization.

The second phase will establish motivated teams of trainees to discuss unmet clinical needs in medicine today under the guidance of physician-innovators. Our goal is to teach motivated trainees about the device development pathway and start collaborations that will devise innovative solutions to important clinical problems.

The SIR RFS Section and the IRIP can serve as valuable resources to promote physician collaboration, education, and discovery and provide the necessary relationships with established physician-inventors and the device industry to bring about innovation. With these tools in place, we can enable the

next generation of successful physician-inventors by making innovation one of the fundamental pillars of IR education and continue IR’s tradition of aggressive innovation.
