PRESIDENT’S TURF Will Nugent Resolve to make 2016 your best year ever!
I wish you all the best as we move into the New Year. May it be filled with faith, family and friends. I wish you great success in in your business, too, a year of growth, great customers and strong sales.
We are so privileged to work in an industry that brings so many positives into people’s lives, from the enjoyment of a beautiful lawn to the recreational oppor- tunities and environmental benefits turfgrass provides. Let’s resolve to greet each day with that thought in mind and respond to any negatives that come our way with a positive attitude and a positive response.
There will always be challenges and obstacles to overcome. That’s a fact of life and a factor in any business. Some are things we can control. So this year let’s resolve to do that proactively and with determination. Other things—such as weather conditions—we can’t control. So let’s resolve to anticipate them, prepare for them, and work through them, targeting our time and resources to the best possible outcome.
One of the greatest things about TPI is the networking opportunities it provides. When you’re facing a challenge, there will almost always be someone who has been in the same situation and has worked their way through it to find a solu- tion. Resolve to reach out to your TPI friends across the world to seek their input and advice. I’ve found an incredible level of sharing throughout our industry about what we’ve done right. And, even more remarkable, we share what we’ve tried that didn’t work, so others won’t repeat our mistakes, and we share what we learned during the trial and error process.
There’s no better place to firm up those networking contacts and to make new ones than the TPI International Education Conference & Field Day. This year, members from all over the world will be getting together in Houston, Texas, February 22-25. Take advantage of the opportunities to connect over meals and breaks between educational sessions, in the trade show and at the Field Day as you check out products and equipment, and during all of those special Texas- style social events. Resolve to greet the first time attendees and introduce them to the others around you. There’s nothing like a friendly smile and warm hello to help them feel welcome.
As always, the Conference program is packed with great sessions filled with practical information, so resolve to take lots of those ideas home and put them to work in your business. I look forward to seeing you in Houston!
