TPI NAMES THREE AWARD

RECIPIENTS The Turfgrass Producers International Board of Trustees has announced the names of three individuals selected to re- ceive special recognition for their service to TPI and the industry. The awards will be presented on Tuesday, February 23, during TPI’s Annual Business Meeting at the TPI 2016 International Education Conference & Field Day in Houston, TX.

Dr. John R. Hall III to Receive

the Honorary Member Award This esteemed award is presented to an individual who has significantly improved and made a major contribution to the turfgrass industry.

The Honorary Member award recipi- ent is selected by a vote of the Board of Trustees based on individuals nominated by members at large.

Dr. Hall’s career has spanned over three decades. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Floriculture and Ornamental Horticulture in 1964, and his Master of Science degree in 1965 at the University of Illinois. He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1971 from The Ohio State University. He has been a TPI member since 1973.

Dr. Mike Kenna Will Re- ceive TPI’s Distinguished

Service Award Dr. Kenna is only the seventh recipient of this award which serves to recognize and honor individuals who have devoted their time, tal- ent and energy to TPI,

its programs and objectives and who have made an outstanding contribution to the turfgrass and green industry.

Dr. Kenna has served as the Director of USGA Green Section Research since February 1990 and currently oversees the USGA’s turfgrass and environmental research activities,

including soliciting and evaluating research proposals, grant making, and development of cooperative funding with government and com- mercial sources.

Dr. Grady Miller is Re- ceiving Turfgrass Educa- tor Award of

Excellence Dr. Grady Miller, Pro- fessor and Extension Turf Specialist, North Carolina State Univer- sity, is being honored

by TPI for his personal commitment, dedication and positive influence in helping to educate consumers, turfgrass producers and industry professionals.

Prior to arriving at NC State where his appointment is approximately half extension, with the other half equally split between research and teaching, Miller spent eleven years with the turfgrass fac- ulty at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
