HARVEST NO TES
Building On a LegacyLe For the Future
cy by ROGER REIMER
I’ve always enjoyed watching a construction project with all kinds of equipment and skilled workers creat- ing a new building — architects designing impressive structures that inspire our imagination to reflect a sense of awe in whatever they are doing. We love to hear comments like, “Wow! Look at that!” So, how do we apply this environment to our own lives that can be an encouragement to someone and sow the seed of a ministry for the future of our faith? In this new year think about the following:
• TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES WE ALREADY HAVE
Go to the places that are already open and receptive to our faith. I respect the initiatives of reaching out to the most unreached people groups of the world, but I think we should also respond to opportunities that the Lord has made available right now!
• ADDRESS THE UNMET NEEDS IN OUR WORLD
Jesus simultaneously healed the sick around him and preached the gospel message. That model for ministry should give us some insight about what kinds of ministries we need to focus on.
• BUILD A MINISTRY THAT IS SUSTAINABLE
Second Timothy 2:2 is often used to guide the establishment of a ministry. Investing our time and energy in the lives of those who can carry on the effort is one of the indicators of having the right vision in mind. In these times of uncertainty, it is assuring to see evidenc of God’s continued blessings that serve as a source of encouragement for everyone involved.
• WORK TOGETHER AS A REFLECTION OF THE FUNCTION OF THE BODY OF CHRIST
One of the evidences of the presence of the Holy Spirit in any group is the supernatural result of a healthy body of Christ. Demonstrating this kind of environment in the view of the world around us will be creating an environment that is inviting to join by a diverse gathering of people. Think about it, isn’t it more enjoyable to be a part of a team rather than being a lone ranger?
• BE A PART OF GOD’S DIVINE DESIGN AS A GLOBAL PARTNER
Our fellowship of churches has a history of sending a high percentage of members to foreign countries as Global Partners. Maybe God is using the coronavirus pandemic to challenge all of us to think of new ways to share the message of hope that we enjoy. Building an environment using the foundation of a history of involvement in missions can be just what we need to creatively build ministries for the future. We need to be in this together!
One of the memories I have of living in Quito
were the many second floor balconies where residents could look out over the street below and watch a parade, celebration, or demonstration for a cause of some kind. But if you really wanted to join the group you had to go down to the street and join your neigh- bors and become one of those marching. So which group are you part of? The spectators or those partic- ipating for a cause? Why not think about becoming an activist with a positive encouraging focus, as a Christ-following Global Partner?
Roger Reimer has a long history with the FEBC, having grown up within the Fellowship. He served as a Global Partner for 40 years. Now, he is the chair of the Commis- sion on Global Partnerships within the FEBC.
