wary of compressed or ZIP file attachments.
5. Purchase and/or examine existing cyber-se- curity insurance policy for compliance. Ensure that the policy adequately covers your needs.
6. Perform a risk assessment, and develop a response plan. All businesses should evaluate their current operating systems to identify existing vulnerabilities—because everyone has some! Take stock of all the devices that you and your team use for work purposes and those that are attached to your internal networks. What operating systems do they run? What antivirus and firewall provisions do they have in place? Make sure that their operating systems and antivirus software is kept up to date regu- larly. Understand the infrastructure of your internal network and how your company’s PCs communicate with each other. This may
be good to know—i.e., how and where to stem any potential flow of the virus should one machine on your network become infected.
7. Disconnect immediately if infected. Experts say that if your business is attacked, admin- istrators should disconnect infected systems from the corporate network and disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on all machines to pre- vent the malware from spreading to other machines.
Hopefully, following these steps will point your company in the right direction so that you will never have to experience the costs, incon- venience and variety of damages (financial and otherwise, such as damage to your reputation, loss of customer data, fines, etc.) inflicted upon victims of cyber attacks. 7
