New Year’s Resolutions for New Board Members and Boards Toyan Copeland
As a new board member: I will become familiar with the governing documents, insurance and finances of my association.
I will do my best to understand the maintenance needs of my property.
I will be a team player.
I will make decisions for the good of my association and never for my self-interest.
I will do my homework in advance of each Board meeting.
I will attend all meetings of my board.
I will remember and accept that the majority rules and that I may not always be a part of that majority.
I will keep my sense of humor.
I will be grateful for the opportunity to work with new people, learn new things and have a say in caring for my investment.
As a board of directors: We will define our goals for the coming year.
We will make sure our expectations of our association manager, employees or others are in agreement with theirs.
We will conduct our meetings in a businesslike manner.
We will welcome homeowners at our meetings and be firm yet kind in explaining that they may observe but not participate.
We will stick to our agenda, keeping our meetings focused and productive.
We will listen to each other before making a final decision.
We will respect each other, keeping in mind that our behavior can set the tone for our entire association.
We will keep our meetings to a reasonable length.
We will seek opportunities to learn more about being good leaders.
We will seek to promote a sense of community among our owners and residents.
We will make the best possible business decisions for our association.
We will be mindful and consistent in establishing and enforcing reasonable policies, rules, regulations, and processes.
