PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE


David R. Stemp, DC, President WSCA Board of Directors


It is hard to believe that I’ve been working (do we consider this work?) for close to 30 years already. I think back to the early days and all the effort it took to build a successful practice. I


remember the busy doctors I shadowed, constantly watching and listening for nuggets of good advice. I remember the seminars I attended so frequently seeking out the best suggestions for building a thriving family wellness practice. I know my success is absolutely tied to the willingness of so many of those veteran docs to mentor myself and other young chiropractors just getting started.


My goal as president of the WSCA is to continue to foster that same level of support for doctors just starting out. I truly believe that we are all in this together and the more successful we can all become the better chance we have of becoming the undisputed leaders of natural health and wellness around the world. Success should be measured not just in terms of financial gains but also molding dynamic wellness-based doctors who can continue to foster the core tenants of our chiropractic philosophy; The human body is a self-regulating organism with the innate ability to health itself. Our job as chiropractors is to correct subluxations that may disrupt the body’s ability to get healthy and stay healthy.


Here are a few ways that I have found can be so impactful for helping to support our younger doctors in our state.


• Establish a mentorship program in your practice to help guide newcomers, providing wisdom on both the technical and business aspects of chiropractic.


• Create a culture of open, supportive communication by inviting younger chiropractors to ask questions, share concerns, and collaborate on solutions.


• Demonstrate a genuine passion for chiropractic care and its impact on patients’ lives. Enthusiasm is contagious, and when younger chiropractors see experienced practitioners committed to their work, they will be motivated to follow suit.


• Continue learning by showing that being a chiropractor is a lifelong journey of growth. Attend seminars, pursue certifications, and engage with the latest research to stay at the forefront of the field.


• Encourage them to keep the focus on the patient’s well-being rather than solely on financial gain or professional accolades. Show how empathy and holistic care can make a profound difference in a patient’s life, leading to long-term fulfillment in their careers.


• Acknowledge the challenges that young chiropractors face, such as building a practice, dealing with student debt, or establishing professional credibility. Offering advice and strategies for overcoming these challenges can help them stay motivated and grounded in their career journey.





Reinforce the deeper philosophy behind chiropractic care and the belief in the body’s innate ability to heal itself and the chiropractor’s role in facilitating that process. By connecting their work to a broader, holistic perspective, younger chiropractors can feel a greater sense of purpose.


The WSCA will always be here to help connect doctors to each other, provide excellent opportunities for continuing education throughout the year, provide resources for success to younger doctors in the state, and to constantly enforce the health and wellness philosophy of chiropractic.


And we will constantly


strive to do more to help not only our new doctors but all chiropractors in our state.
