EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

Jeff Curwen, CAE WSCA Executive Director

We have an exciting year ahead of us in 2025 with an important legislative platform followed by a full educational calendar.

As we have reported throughout January, the WSCA is pursuing a bill that would require fair contracting practices between providers and insurance carriers by allowing negotiation, providing a point of contact, and

providing an easily accessible fee schedule prior to signing. This fair contracting bill is HB 1589 and it offers the best pathway to increasing insurance reimbursements—one where you’re not forced into non-negotiable contracts.

Our secondary bill, HB 1655, would require carriers to provide cost of living increases commensurate with the consumer price index inflation for contracts between them and providers not employed by, or affiliated with, a hospital or hospital system. Last year’s coalition behind this bill has grown and we’re now one of over 30 professions advocating for these increases. Both bills need more support—so even if you weren’t able to make it to Legislative Day at the Capitol, we encourage you to make appointments with your lawmakers and explain to them why the passage of these bills is so important.

In addition to this full legislative agenda, we have extensive educational programs available each month, either from the WSCA directly or through our corporate partners.

In March, there are four upcoming events. Chronic Disease Management and Causation featuring Dr. Brandon Brock and presented by Erchonia will take place Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2, in Seattle. This live, hands-on seminar offers 12 CEs. Reduce Your Work Comp Headaches presented by Work Comp Wizards, is a live work comp workshop hosted at the Washington History Museum in Tacoma on Saturday, March 8. This workshop offers 7 ¼ CEs, including 7 ¼ AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.TM

Thursday, March 13 at 11am. This webinar, featuring Dr. Jeff Finnigan, offers 1 CE. And on Saturday, March 15, the first CPR Training & Certification class of the year will be held at the WSCA office in Tacoma and offers 4 CEs.

In April, Adler Giersch will present a 6 CE Personal Injury Seminar on effectively managing PI cases. That course will be offered on April 3 at the Bellevue Club. On April 12, we’ll have the next CPR Training & Certification class in Tacoma. Beginning April 24 and continuing through the 27th is the Seattle King County Clinic. This annual health fair is still looking for volunteers, so if you’re interested in sharing chiropractic with communities in need. Also on April 24 is the first part of the 2025 Dan Dock Series: Lumbar Spine Syndrome. Like last year, this program will be presented online for the first installment and in person in Seattle for the second installment, two weeks later. Registration for this program is for both installments.

And that’s just through April. The WSCA educational calendar is available at www. chirohealth.org/events and we have events booked all the way through November. Start planning your continuing education for 2025 now and save a spot in all of your preferred classes. Laying out exciting educational opportunities for you early in the year is one way the WSCA is Helping Chiropractors Help Patients.
