back to Ohio that very morning with no less than two Stud and two flock animals out of the five animals. Success well-earned from his many self-training visits to, and courses in, South Africa.
Then, it was the Heartland Savanna herd. Jason, who is president of the US- SABGBA, and Karlia were elated when their hard work got rewarded, as the very first truly South African accepted Savanna Stud Ram in the U.S., by virtue of the SA Studbook mandate held by US-SABGBA, was tagged.
By the end of the day a total of five Sa- vanna Stud and 24 Savanna Flock animals were tagged for the Dahl’s Heartland Savan- nas. As per Jaco van der Merwe’s individual comments to me, much later: “The best Sa- vannas I’ve inspected in the U.S. thus far!” Having become great friends in an ex- tremely short space of time, the goodbyes were hard when Jaco was once again driven to the airport on his way to Northwood, Iowa, at the S-Bar-D Ranch of Stan Huber. Starting from nothing, Stan, being a positive and driven rancher, had some excellent Sa- vanna goats for inspection.
The inspection went extremely well with excellent animals. Stan presented 20 animals for inspection of which only a single animal was a cull. Two animals were tagged Stud and 17 Flock. All will be recorded in the SA Studbook. A number of other prospective goat
