omeone recently wrote in IR Update, “Ahh, what a decade this will be to reflect on when the
sweeping securities protection laws in 60 years, and on and on and on. “[Tis year] IROs will be inundated with
more news, information and gossip about new laws, changes in operating rules of the road, [and] stricter securities/consumer protection regulations. “Te good news is that IROs can be the
‘Jiminy Crickets’ of their companies [this year] by constantly whispering in manage- ment’s ear, ‘It’s about the shareowners!’ Companies can avoid trouble [this year] by asking, ‘Are we doing the right thing
for the owners?’ “Regulators will be reminding everyone of the importance of this by issuing procla- mations, rulemaking actions, enforcements and directives; here is your chance to get ahead of the events.” Sound like 2023? It could be. But I have to confess that I stretched the meaning of the word “recently” just a bit. Tose words were written in January
