POWER OF 10 LEADERSHIP PROGRAM IN ACTION
We have kicked off another edition of the Power of Ten in KVMA. Let me start by saying thank you to the KVMA, our Foundation and our corporate sponsors, including Elanco. Te 2019-20 KVMA Power of 10 is a diverse group of amazing vet- erinarians from across the state and they are already helping to shape the future of our association and profession.
During the 2019 Mid-America Veterinary Conference we were fortunate enough to have Dr. Heidi Hulon spend half of a day with the participants, where the focus was Insights Training. Insights is a tool for self-awareness based on personality traits. During this session with Dr. Hulon our Power of 10 partici- pants were able to learn more about their own personal com- munication and problem solving styles, as well as how to rec- ognize and relate to the styles of others. Our group came away with the tools to help navigate interpersonal communication and leadership within their personal and professional lives.
In mid October our Power of 10 group met at the Life Adven- ture Center in Versailles. We spent a full day learning about leadership from one another and a group of horses, led by our facilitator Lissa Pohl. Lissa’s session on Herd Dynamics brought our participants face-to-face with some of their verbal and non- verbal communication styles as well as pushing their bound- aries on developing influence in a leadership capacity. Each participant had an individual take-away from the day, and the group as a whole developed deeper connections and had amaz- ing discussions on the dynamics of early career challenges.
