Your JVIR experience is changing What to expect from the JVIR digital-only transition
Starting with the January 2026 issue, the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR) will be transitioning to a digital-only publication model.
“We are extremely excited for this new format for the journal. Most notably, the digital format will signifi cantly improve production time, getting information to our readers in the most expeditious way possible,” said Brian Funaki, MD, FSIR, and Charles E. Ray, Jr, MD, PhD, FSIR, incoming co-editors-in-chief.
This transition brings JVIR in line with other leading radiology journals such as Radiology, the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR) and CardioVascular and Interventional Radiology (CVIR).
While accessibility to information will not change for SIR members and those with opportunities to read the journal through institutional resources, there are likely still readers who would prefer a monthly paper journal, the editors acknowledge.
“At this juncture, however, the costs (in both time and money) of continuing to produce a paper journal simply outweigh the need to move to an online format,” Drs. Funaki and Ray said. However, the digital-only transition will allow not only ensure a sustainable future for JVIR, but also allow the journal to reinvest savings in editorial excellence, peer review infrastructure and enhanced digital features for authors and readers alike.
“Articles will be published more expeditiously and in a rolling fashion, meaning that articles will be available as soon as production is completed without having to wait for all articles in an issue to be fi nished,” the editors said. “This means quicker turnaround times for authors, and quicker access to information for our readers.”
In addition to the online-only change, readers will soon notice a diff erent format to each issue.
Aside from the end of print materials, this change will be seamless for subscribers. Readers will continue to obtain new articles upon publication through email alerts and website updates, as well as anywhere, anytime access to articles and interactive features from any device.
Drs. Funaki and Ray encourage readers to reach out with any additional ideas.
“We are always interested in reader feedback on ways to improve the readability of the journal,” they said. In addition, if you have questions or require assistance accessing the journal online, please contact editors and staff at
