EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S TURF On Your Marks, Get Set, Go!
Casey Reynolds, PhD
Te year before I was hired at TPI, the Board of Trustees at that time had just completed a strategic plan that laid out a TPI Mission Statement, Vision, and Core Values, as well as medium, high, and critical objectives they identified for TPI’s success. Our board and staff have used that plan over the last several years as a road map to set the direction for TPI.
If you recall from the TPI 2024 Conference in Orlando, our president Diane Mischel announced that the current board voted to take a fresh look at our strategic plan and update it for 2024 and beyond. As a result, we met in Chicago, IL, from June 3-5 to chart TPI’s course for the years ahead. What is TPI’s mission? What is our vision for getting there? What are our core values that will not change regardless of the course? Last, but not least, what are our goals and our strategies to get us there? After all, as the saying goes “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” Tese are questions that every association needs to consider when deciding where to direct their energy and efforts, how to set budgets, and so on.
We’ll share more about the strategic plan at the TPI 2025 Conference in San Antonio, TX, next February as well as publish it on the TPI website very soon. In the meantime, we’ve updated our membership model to reach more members and have completely re-vamped our Join/ Renew process to make it easier and more convenient for new members to join online. In fact, within just eight weeks of launching the new TPI membership database and joining process, we have picked up new members from Australia, Brazil, China, Denmark, Kentucky, and Israel. We’ve also had current members in Canada, Florida, and Texas renew online.
Part of our strategic plan in the coming years is to get more members engaged in TPI communications, and you may notice the new database allows you to enter contact information for multiple employees instead of just your primary rep. In this way, more members of your business will get Turf News magazine, conference announcements, directory listings, and more.
We know that every farm and business is different, and our new membership model allows you to customize your farm profile and TPI benefits with just a few clicks. Or you can always call us, and we’ll be happy to update your membership profile for you. Either way, we are excited to continue to serve our members and our industry in the coming years.
So, how did I land on the above headline for this issue of my Executive Director’s Message? Te last time TPI set a strategic plan was in 2016 when the Summer Olympics were held in Rio, Brazil. Here we are in 2024 coming off the Olympics in Paris, France, and we’ve coincidentally set our new strategic plan for TPI in another Olympic year. Just as athletes all over the world train and work hard daily to achieve a goal, we’ve set the course and put the resources in place so that we can work hard in the coming years to get us to our goal. Now all we have to do is get on our marks, get set, and go!
