I had the pleasure of attending CAI Orange County's Manager's Breakfast discussion of "Keeping your Community Inclusive" at the Assembly at The Flight. Peg Corley, Executive Director of the Orange County LGBTQ+ Center, and Cyrus Koochek, Esq., SwedelsonGottlieb, presented a well- rounded, thoughtful conversation around LGBTQ+ inclusiveness in the workplace and communities.
At the Manager's Breakfast, Peg and Cyrus dove into these meaningful discussions, including LGBTQ+ Rights and Allyship, LGBTQ+ Cultural Competency (including Transgender 101), inclusiveness in the workplace and on property, and of course, the legal consideration for the same. Discriminatory laws and socio-cultural norms continue to marginalize and exclude lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and gender-diverse persons from education, health care, housing, employment, occupation, and other sectors. An environment of exclusion leads to violence and discrimination, inequality of opportunity, and access to resources.

I commend the Orange County Regional Chapter for hosting this breakfast. LGBTQ+ inclusion is essential for making sure everyone feels safe and comfortable bringing their whole, authentic selves to work and Chapter events. Equity - just and fair inclusion of all - is essential to growing strong, vibrant, and resilient communities.
