Our May Educational Luncheon was presented by Jamie Gould, CMCA, AMS, Vice President of Community Management for the OC division at PMP Management, AAMC, Scott P. Griffiths, PresidenV Founder of Great Scott Tree Care, and Jacqueline Pagano, Esq., Community Association Attorney at Roseman Law, APC. Jacqueline started off the discussion with some important facts on why tree care is important and what obligations an association's board has to prevent risk and liability factors. Tree care becomes real, real fast when trees are neglected. It is an association board's duty to maintain common areas for their communities.

Speakers Jamie Gould, CMCA, AMS, PMP Management, AAMC, Scott P. Griffiths, Great Scott Tree Care and Jacqueline Pagano, Esq., Roseman Law, APC

Jamie discussed the Community Manager's role in all this and the many factors to consider. Regular inspections with a reputable tree care company are vital to ensure you have a comprehensive long-range plan. Scott went over the certifications, insurance, and licenses to look for when qualifying a tree care company to bid. Managers should encourage directors to develop and budget for a multi-year plan. Jamie and Scott showed us what an annual calendar with a tree care perspective should look like. For example, trees on last year's plan may be getting trimmed while you are getting bids for this year, etc. Managers should provide the vendors the same specification with the correct tree counts so the directors can see apples-to-apples comparisons when it comes to labor and pricing. The round table also showed examples of what could happen when a board decides to defer maintenance.
