WINNING ENTRY { ALL CREATURES } GOLDENTAIL MORAY EEL IN STAR CORAL by Dr. Stephen Brumit, Lee’s Summit
THE “ALL CREATURES GREAT & SMALL” CATEGORY IS ALWAYS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR AND FEATURED 25 ENTRIES. Dr. Stephen Brumit, an endodontist in Lee’s Summit, says of his winning image, “This image was taken on the Front Porch dive site, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles— a beautiful place to dive. The depth was 35 feet and it was taken with a Canon 650 camera in an Ikelite underwater
housing; two external Ikelite flashes were used. This is a close-up shot. The eel’s head is about 1.25 to 1.5 inches wide, the body about 18 inches long. They are lovely eels and tend to retreat less from divers compared to other eels. This one is in a crack where three star corals meet. Morays frequently open and close their mouth to push water through their gills.”
