and residents involved and active, not only in the governmental and business aspects of the association, but in the community aspect through the implementation of fitness classes, social events and trips for residents to enjoy.

The fitness classes offered in an active adult community vary greatly from those offered at a local park district or senior center. Most of the instructors who teach active adult fitness classes have a specialized understanding of the residents needs as they age. Water aerobics, balance and movement classes, yoga, golf conditioning, Zumba and aerobics classes are planned with the “active adult” in mind and typically include modifications for particular moves in order to accommodate a wide variety of fitness and movement abilities. Social activities and travel groups are other great benefits that come with living in an active adult community. Many communities offer monthly social events like concerts, holiday parties, magicians, BBQ’s/Pool Parties; day trips to theaters, museums, casinos, cruises, and bus trips; and, weekly educational seminars about varied topics such as money management, health and wellness, informative lectures, cooking classes, etc.

Another unique feature of active adult communities are clubs and interest groups. From golf to pickle ball and scrabble to poker, the clubs and interest groups are designed to meet the interests of residents. There is always something to get involved in monthly, weekly or daily. Clubs and interest groups are run by residents for residents and are just another example of the benefits of being a part of a community designed for active adults.

When someone moves into a new home, especially when they are coming from a home that they have spent most of their life in, it can be difficult to feel a sense of belonging. When moving into an active adult community, residents have the opportunity to immerse themselves

in social activities, volunteer opportunities and to be as active as they may choose. When the time comes to plan for a carefree lifestyle, the golden years, or classic living in a new setting, active adult communities offer a lot for consideration. The community atmosphere is ready and waiting for the living!
