ISI EDGE FALL 2016

Figure skating clubs and rinks across the nation are invited to fundraise for the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation and, in turn, host a SK8 to Elimin8 Cancer open skate celebration at their rink. Clubs will be given the resources to set up and run their own fundraising and open skate celebrations with the support of the foundation.

The Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation is dedicated to funding world-class research and quality care to improve cancer survivorship. The foundation helps support two cancer education websites Hamilton created — Chemocare.com (in partnership with Cleveland Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Foundation) and RadCare.org (in partnership with Provisionn Center for Proton Therapy).

Hamilton also founded The 4th Angel

Mentoring Program, dedicated to providing user-friendly information and personalized support to cancer patients, survivors and their families.

A two-time cancer survivor, Hamilton is a reminder that with fortitude and determination, anything is possible. As a keynote speaker, he has inspired audiences across the country with stories about his life and overcoming adversity. He delivered a motivational address at the opening of the ISI/PSA Conferences & Trade Show in the spring. (Please see page 6.)

Hamilton is a four-time World champion, 1984 Olympic gold medalist, network tv skating analyst, actor, producer, Emmy Award nominee, philanthropist, husband and father to four children.

For more information, visit MASC’s website at mnsports.org.

SEPTEMBER MARKETING TIP

While September is often associated with back- to-school activities, it’s also been designated as National Childhood Obesity Awareness month. Did you know that one in three children in the United States is overweight or obese? This puts kids at risk for health issues including heart disease and diabetes. Children should get 60 minutes of exercise daily.

Tip: Don’t forget to work your marketing promotional materials this month around the childhood obesity theme.
