ISI District 16 (Alaska) by Cindy Solberg, District Director
We have enjoyed three successful events since my last report—ISI Holiday Challenge, Iditarod Skatefest and Riverskate. We held our first ever holiday themed
competition in 2015. I am happy to report it was a great success. Te event was hosted by the Harry J McDonald Memorial Center
Dr Pepper StarCenter – McKinney, 1st District 11 Championship.
place,
in Eagle River during the second week of December. Te event gave skaters a wonderful chance to use all those holiday themed recital programs in a competitive format. We plan to hold this event again this year. Tank you to Christy Rockwell and Sarah Devereaux for all their hard work. Te next event was Wasilla’s Iditarod Skatefest. Tis event
is hosted annually by the Brett Memorial Ice Arena and Sheree Hugli’s excellent team. It was another great event! Sheree is retiring this year and will be greatly missed in our District 16 community. Tankfully, she plans to be around to guide the next generation. Te spring skating season was capped off by the Peninsula
Sports Center’s Riverskate Competition, always the largest event in the district. Madalyn McEwen again hosted a fun and well-attended event. In July, we traveled to Fairbanks for the Summer Fun
Skate Competition. I am happy to report that this has now become an annual event and I enjoy seeing all of my “Skating Community” friends.
After completing an ICE at The Parks summer camp course on healthy eating, high-level skaters earned certificates.
