As COVID Tests Industry, Construction Answers the Call
Construction is not a “usual suspect” in the public psyche when we use these words, but construction is always there. We are part of the response when disaster or disruption hits. We know we are not first responders, but first responders know they cannot do what they do without our industry. We support their abilities to respond to crisis. And when crisis ends, we rebuild, restore, and reactivate our way of life. Always moving forward and always advancing. COVID-19

has disrupted our communities, our state, our nation, and our world. No one has been excluded from the impacts of this virus. As our state moved to shelter-in-place, construction was one of the first sectors deemed “essential.” If we were to ask Californians to stay at home, we needed to support their ability to do so. Construction ensures our safety, our reliability, our productivity, our way of life. It is why AGC of California moved quickly to advocate that construction be deemed essential. It is why we continue to advocate for construction because we know our collective future depends on a built environment. We cannot predict what the future will hold for our commu- nities and state, but we can be assured that its future is contingent on our industry building it and bringing it to life. industry and the COVID-19 crisis has tested our industry like no other. As has been our history, we’ve passed that test and are showing the world that our industry is capable and responsible. Our legacy as
construction has been our resiliency in the face of crisis. Tough we at times are slow to realize disruption within our industry, our collective memory knows how to respond in crisis. We know our role and our respon- sibility for the greater good. As we continue
through this public health crisis, we can all be confident in the work we have done and continue to do. We can be proud that our current state and future state are dependent on our ability to answer the call and support the people at large. People may never fully appreciate what we do in the background, but we can sleep better at night because of the work we do. So, thank you. Tank you for being “essential” and for answering the call.
