Digital Leadership Shift Build California’s website, its
overall digital platform and its widespread online presence are key components in its strategy to address the changing needs of students, educators, and parents who have become more involved in supporting their students’ at-home learning. As a result, digital training and content is gaining prominence, according to Powell. “We laid the groundwork for that
by establishing an incredible digital presence through our social media during the first six months of our initiative, while at the same time building an on-the-ground grassroots presence with educators,” he said. “We hope to combine those two compo- nents and really become the leaders in the digital education space.”

Chico State One of Several AGC Student Chapters to Shift Online
Currently more than half of the
AGC of California student chapters are at schools in the California State University (CSU) system that had already announced they would be 100% online for the fall term, when
in campus shutdowns this spring, the challenge for AGC student chapters – and Build California in supporting them – was how to keep student chapters functioning and students engaged. While all had to cancel in-person events and gatherings, several student chapters transitioned to zoom meetings to conduct business and elect leadership for the upcoming school year. Te CSU Chico chapter even managed to complete their community service project, albeit with fewer volunteers. “As a result of our campus closure,
we were unable to complete our scheduled program of work” said CSU Chico Chapter President Humberto Cortez, noting that job-walks, a chapter barbecue, raffle and closing semester meeting all had to be canceled. “As a leadership team, our officers had to quickly become familiar with Zoom so we could continue to
