Marking a Year of Milestones F

or an organization celebrating its 100th

birthday, one year can feel like a drop in the bucket. But what

a year it’s been. While 2020 has certainly tested our resolve and pushed many to their limits, this year has also shown us that—at our core—we are resilient people who persevere and aspire for a better future. 2020 marks important milestones for

AGC of California and the construction industry. It marks one year since we launched Build California. A year since we as an industry said, “No longer will we allow the media, stereotypes and misinformed people define our work and the impact we make.” It marks a year since we proclaimed proudly to the state that construction is essential – and we have proven it time and again throughout 2020. It is also a year

of new conversa- tions and internal reflections recognizing that we are not perfect in reflecting the communities we serve and help create. It is a year that gives us both pause and urgency to be better as an industry. And to be better, AGC of California again, through its Construction Education Foundation, has launched a Diversity and Inclusion

Taskforce to ask the necessary questions and bring forth the right steps and actions we must take to advance our industry. We believe

2020 marks one year since we launched Build California. A year since we as an industry said, “No longer will we allow the media, stereotypes and misinformed people define our work and the impact we make.”

California’s future is contingent upon the success of you—our members. Construction builds careers. It builds communities. It builds futures. To do that, we must always look to how we support our current and future workforce; how we engage and support their success in our industry. We must constantly challenge the status quo so that those who would disrupt our industry are forced to do it with us, not to us. We know that

for our industry to succeed, we must continue to be passionate about shaping policy, improving relation- ships within our

industry, and developing our workforce. Trough these actions, with your support, we can continue to build California.
