Flip the Classroom coaches support teachers’ profes sional development in digital learning and instruction.
through lesson plan study across grade levels and curriculum.
• Improving student growth and performance in achiev- ing academic excellence, developing curiosity for life- long learning, and demonstrating personal and social integrity.
The Flip the Classroom coaches were required to have at least five years of teaching experience, one of which must have been in District 53. They also needed a proven record of supporting academic excellence and an advanced study or experience in a related educa- tional field.
These coaches provided flexible specialty-specific coaching in schools; facilitated whole-group, breakout, and grade-level professional development sessions; col- laborated with each other; and sought feedback from stakeholders.
The coaching model allowed the district to facilitate a train-the-trainer professional development model while providing teachers with the opportunity to interact with and learn from their peers. Nearly one-third of the dis- trict faculty members were trained as coaches over the summer to ensure a successful launch of this initiative.

This collaborative approach to professional development paid dividends in enhanced teaching and learning.
Financing the Project
The cost of a project like this could seem daunting and was a significant investment. Based on money from the district’s education, operating/maintenance, and capital projects funds, the finance committee prepared a six- month cash flow and fund balance analysis to show the board of education the proof of funds.
Because some of the project expenses were subject to E-Rate reimbursement and the in-house buildings and grounds team completed the projects, the district real- ized significant savings on total project costs to facilitate the technology improvements.
As districts upgrade their technology infrastructure, they should consider the strategic plan and anticipated technology required for comprehensive technology that prepares them for the present and the future.
