PRESIDENT Faith is companion on the change journey
“Faith is taking the first step, even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” –Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

ince the time I was a young man, fresh out of college and working in corporate America, I was never comfortable operating in the
unknown. I didn’t mind executing a well-designed plan with a highly-predictable outcome – but throw me into a completely unfamiliar situation without any vision for what the future will bring, and I would run in the opposite direction.
As I’ve aged, I’ve learned that oftentimes life presents challenges where the road ahead is just not visible. Tese are the times when we become mired in the muck, with seemingly no plan or strategy for removing ourselves from it. It’s when the journey isn’t clear that we must rely on faith – believing in what we cannot see – to find our way. And unless we’re willing to stay in the muck for a time, we may never determine the most effective course of action.
Taking the first step
Te NPM Board of Directors revealed the 2.0 concept at last year’s Raleigh Convention, but the formal process actually started the few months following. Admittedly, this well-planned process with structure and deadlines just might take NPM to places unimagined, for the path is not yet visible and the future journey still being determined.

While the 2.0 process unfolds, the NPM staff continues to move forward, one step at a time, in ways that continue serving our members, all the while not seeing the entire staircase. And the results have been very positive. Further into this magazine, be sure to read the Annual Report and learn about the many accomplishments NPM experienced in 2019.
Let go and let God
Faith is not an unknown commodity in the work of pastoral musicians. We prepare cantors and musicians to lead our assemblies, then let them go believing they will soar in successful music ministry. We select music that we think is the very best that will lead people to the deepest connection with God and then give all that we have to make it happen. Faith is at the core of our work – we believe that our vision and hard work will come to life.
Let’s trust the process for 2.0, with faith that the future of NPM will not only be revealed but will be all that God intends.
