the memo portion on the check, and you will receive the necessary documenta- page regarding next year’s event, or other events which honor our historical and cultural heritage. This year the participants donated their time and person- al expense to make this such a special day, but it would be important to provide fair compensation next year. I do believe schools should teach stories about ear- ly pioneer families such as mine to instill an appreciation for the hardships and the lost way of life. When I sponsored the Pioneer Picnic at the Montezuma Well Picnic Grounds last year, it was amazed to hear my 94-year old friend Betty Dickinson Kent share how her grandfather at age 8 and other children had to was more valuable because it fed everyone. Last year when I was a judge in the Colonel’s Daughter Contest, I was very disappointed that the intelligent con- testants had not been taught about the Exodus of the Yavapai-Apache in 1875. These stories need to be taught so that Arizona’s past is not forgotten.
Share one story of a ghost you have met? Or continue to meet? My departed loved ones are my most frequent visitors. During the time when I was on life-support 20 year ago, my father appeared and told me that he had never stopped checking on me. For the past couple of months my house has and many of the old cowboys telling me that I had to make the Return of the was been from my half-sister, Lois Friesner Williams, who died of leukemia in 2013. When I was working for Tours of Jerome several years ago, my cell phone powered it back on, the date showed October 13, 9:05 pm, but after about 5 sec- my sister Phyllis on the way home that night to tell her the story. She looked up date. I wouldn’t be able to open myself up to encounters of the spirit world if it were not for the beloved ghosts who watch over me.
