PRESIDENT’S LEADERSHIP AWARD PRESENTED TO ALBRECHT KNIGGE
More About Albrecht Albrecht Knigge got into the sod business in 1992 on the farm in Pattensen, Germany (near Hanover) that has been in his family since 1370. His company, Rasenland (literally, Grassland) now has six locations around Germany. Te newest Rasenland farm near Frankfurt is the first farm in Germany to have certified organic turfgrass production. Rasenland Pattensener hosted the ETP Turf Expo & Field Day on July 7 – 8, 2022. At that time, Albrecht was also serving as President of ETP.
During the Annual Business Meeting held at TPI’s 2024 International Education Conference & Field Day in Orlando, Florida, TPI President Diane Mischel announced: “As the 2024 TPI President, I have the honor of awarding the President’s Leadership Award to one member that has shown exemplary dedication to TPI. Tis award recognizes that member’s efforts to go above and beyond and their willingness to devote their time and talents to advance TPI.
“Albrecht Knigge came on the TPI board as a trustee in 2022 and immediately was instrumental in reconnecting TPI at a global level post-pandemic. Al’s research and efforts helped TPI offer its first international event for members since 2012. He designed and coordinated the TPI tours before and after the European Turfgrass Producer’s (ETP) Expo, hosted at his farm in Germany in July 2022. Al’s hard work made the trip a success for the members able to attend as well as creating a template for future events.
“Tere can be hurdles to navigate for our international TPI trustees—significant time zone differences, travel, cultural differences, and other communication barriers. Al is on all the board meeting Zoom calls despite them occurring during the late evening in Germany. He is present at the in-person board meetings and adds so much value to the discussions with his perspective and ideas. Al is always willing to say ‘yes’ to TPI and has never let time or distance hinder his efforts as a board member.
“I am awarding Albrecht Knigge the 2024 President’s Leadership Award. Congratulations Al!”
As TPI membership and marketing manager Allie Roed reported in the “TPI Germany Travel Diary,” in the September/October 2022 issue of Turf News following that trip, “Turfgrass Producers International truly prides itself on being an international organization. Tis trip allowed some U.S. and Canadian members to see how our industry peers thrive in a different part of the world. We had the best time connecting with members from all over Europe during the ETP Expo. We couldn’t have asked for a better host than Albrecht Knigge and the wonderful families that opened their lives to us.”
"Al is always willing to say ‘yes’ to TPI and has never let time or distance hinder his efforts as a board member."
